Nevada Court Blocks Kalshi from Operating Temporarily

The ongoing legal battle involving Kalshi, a prediction market platform, and Nevada state authorities has taken another turn as a federal appeals court ruled in favor of the state. The Ninth Circuit Appeals Court has denied Kalshi’s emergency request to prevent the enforcement of a temporary restraining order (TRO) that will halt its operations in Nevada for offering sports-related contracts. This decision grants the state the authority to proceed with measures to block Kalshi from operating within its jurisdiction, pending further court considerations.
The case stems from the unique nature of Kalshi's offerings, which include markets on sports outcomes, political events, and entertainment predictions. This type of service falls into a gray area under Nevada’s gaming laws, prompting a legal confrontation with the state. Gaming lawyer Daniel Wallach has highlighted that a TRO against Kalshi has become imminent, effectively barring the platform from engaging in its normal activities in Nevada for at least the next 14 days.
